Work Of The Humane Society Of The United States.
The Humane Society of the United States is involved in more than keeping animals which have been rescued for people to come and adopt. HSUS’ work goes beyond supporting the local animal shelters in doing their work. Celebrating Animals, Confronting Cruelty is the motto of the organization and represents the complex work that is carried out by the organization.
There are thousands of animal species in the world. The main objective of the HSUS is to protect, save, and rescue these animals. HSUS does not only work in the U.S but has extended globally with some of its missions being to rescue sea animals. The animals rescued by the organization have been involved in racing, rodeos, Zoos, circuses, hunting, fashion, aquariums and research. The activities that the animals are involved are many and these are some of them.
It is the work of HSUS to work with pet owners in ensuring their safety and security and also providing the support to the other local animal shelters HSUS has been a leading organization in lobbying for laws related to animals both locally and internally. The laws that the organization has been lobbying are meant to ensure that animal cruelty has been eliminated. Animals are also victims when a disaster such as when the Tsunami hit the South East Asia in 2004. In such scenarios the HSUS is always ready to travel in the area to help in the rescue mission of the animals. The organization also thinks about the welfare of backyard animals such as the squirrels, mice and raccoons by educating homeowners of how to peacefully coexist with them.
In the united states, HSUS was not the first organization to be involved in animal welfare. The first one was the society for the prevention of cruelty of animals which was founded in 1886. It was the first organization of its kind in the U.S. More other organizations came up. In 1887, delegates from these organizations agreed to collapse and form the American Humane Association. The disagreements among some members led to some of the leaving and forming HSUS.
The main goal of the HSUS was to ensure that all types of animal cruelty are eliminated in the whole world. The first work of HSUS was to push for the de legislation of law that required animal shelters to turn over animals to be used for research work. The organization has led to passing of many laws that protect animals. The laws range from those protecting endangered species to those that make it illegal to mistreat research animals inhumanly.
